Scottish Ceremonial Experiences
A personal way to mark something meaningful during your time in Scotland.
Perhaps Scotland holds a connection for you through family, ancestry or shared memories. Perhaps you are travelling here to celebrate an anniversary, reaffirm a commitment or simply want to create one extraordinary moment during your time together.
I create private ceremonies shaped around your story, the place you have chosen and the Scottish traditions that have meaning for you.
What is a Scottish ceremonial experience ?
It is a personal, non-legal ceremony created around something you want to mark or remember.
You don't need to be getting married, celebrating a particular anniversary or following a prescribed format. Your ceremony might acknowledge a commitment, reconnect you with Scottish heritage, bring a family together, remember someone important, or simply mark a moment in your lives that deserves to be recognised.
Together, we create something meaningful, personal and appropriate to you.
Heritage Ceremony
Create a ceremony inspired by your Scottish ancestry, family story or personal connection with Scotland.
Blended Family Ceremony
Bring people together through promises, readings and symbolic elements that recognise a family being formed or strengthened.
Handfasting Ceremony
Mark your connection through one of Scotland’s best-known symbolic traditions, with words and ties chosen to hold personal meaning for you.
Remembrance Ceremony
Pause somewhere meaningful to remember someone you carry with you - perhaps through words, music, reflection or the scattering of ashes.
Anniversary or Reaffirmation Ceremony
Celebrate everything you’ve shared, acknowledge where life has taken you and make new promises for the years ahead.
A Ceremony Created for You
Not every significant moment has a name. Tell me what you would like to mark and we can create something around it.
Scottish traditions can add another layer of meaning to your ceremony, but nothing needs to be included simply because it is “Scottish”.
We can choose the elements that genuinely connect with your story.
Your connection to Scotland
Your ceremony might include:
Handfasting
Sharing from the quaich
Family or clan tartan
Remembrance
Scottish poetry or reading
Music
An oathing stone
Personal words, vows or promises
Planning your ceremony from overseas
You don't need to be in Scotland to begin planning.
We can meet online while you are still at home, explore what you would like the experience to feel like and begin shaping the ceremony together.
Whether Scotland is familiar territory or somewhere you are visiting for the first time, I can help you understand what will work well for your chosen ceremony and setting.
There is no legal marriage requirement attached to these ceremonies.
If your ceremony forms part of a wedding or elopement, any legal marriage arrangements are made separately.
What happens when you book your ceremony?
-
We begin with a conversation about why Scotland matters to you, what you are marking and how you would like the experience to feel.
-
We explore your story, words, traditions, symbolic elements, location and the people you might want involved.
-
Your ceremony is created specifically around you — not taken from a standard script or template.
-
I meet you at your chosen location and lead the ceremony, allowing you to be completely present in the experience.
A quiet lochside.
A Highland glen.
Woodland.
A castle or historic setting.
A beach or coastline.
A garden.
Somewhere connected with your family history.
Where could your ceremony take place?
From wild landscapes to quiet, intimate spaces, the right setting can become part of the story of the ceremony itself.
Your setting should feel meaningful to you, while also being practical, accessible and suitable for the ceremony you are planning.
